A study from the Sept issue of Arthritis and Rheumatology that looked at 7,742 people with osteoarthritis found that those that took NSAID drugs (anti-inflammatory drugs such ibuprofen and aspirin) were at 41 percent increased risk for suffering heart attacks, heart failure and strokes, compared to arthritis patients who did not take NSAIDs. Although many other studies have linked NSAIDs to heart attacks, this was the first to link it to people with osteoarthritis taking NSAID's.
Do you see that this is another reason to try chiropractic or other manual treatments before resorting to drugs?NSAIDs and Heart Attack Risk

Peter Gotzsche, founder of the Cochrane Collaboration, talks about dangers of prescription drugs
Many of our most commonly used drugs, from painkillers to antidepressants, are dangerous and are killing us off in large numbers, says a leading researcher. Peter Gotzsche, a co-founder of the Cochrane Collaboration, the world's foremost body in assessing medical evidence estimates that 100,000 people in the United States alone die each year from the side-effects of correctly used drugs.
He goes on to say "It's remarkable that nobody raises an eyebrow when we kill so many of our own citizens with drugs." Professor Gotzsche says those deaths are only the tip of the iceberg and are representative of a system of drug regulation that simply does not protect patients.
Why are we allowing 2000 per week to die from these FDA approved drugs?

Supreme Court rules Drug Companies exempt from Lawsuits
In a 5-4 vote, the US Supreme Court struck down a lower court’s ruling and award for the victim of a generic pharmaceutical drug’s adverse reaction. According to the victim and the state courts, the drug caused a flesh-eating side effect that left the patient permanently disfigured over most of her body. The adverse reaction was hidden by the drug maker and later forced to be included on all warning labels. But the highest court in the land ruled that the victim had no legal grounds to sue the corporation because its drugs are exempt from lawsuits.
